Consultancy Practice

Meridian 1 offers a rich set of organisational effectiveness capabilities.

We recognise that no two organisations' problems will be the same, therefore we do not offer 'off the shelf' solutions. We take the time to question, listen and understand before recommending an approach. This ensures that we deliver solutions that work and provide the best value possible.

Consultancy activities
Our consultancy cover the full range of activities required to formulate, implement and improve corporate and competitive strategy

Meridian1 is proud to be a consultancy. We approach each engagement as unique; we understand that every client is different, and we respect the knowledge and experience you have as an organisation and an individual. This is the foundation of our practice. We don’t assume we know the answer before we have discussed the problem, and we don’t propose solutions that you are capable of delivering yourself. We use a systematic and rational approach to analysing your requirements and finding the areas where we can add the most value for you.

We like the description of a consultant that Peter Block uses: "a consultant is a person in a position to have some influence over an individual, a group, or an organisation, but who has no direct power to make changes or implement programs."
This definition illustrates an interesting paradox: in many organisations today, we are all consultants - working in cross-functional teams and matrix structures so that we have to rely on influencing skills rather than positional authority to underpin the functions we perform (planning, promoting, supporting and advising). However, the role of an external consultant is distinct from a line manager and an internal consultant.
A great consultant facilitates change; a bad consultant becomes a surrogate manager. If the real need is for a surrogate, an interim manager is a much better option than a consultant. If an external agent that can act as a catalyst for change is required, this is where consultancy can make a difference.
